Sweet Side Chair
I love this chair! She's just so petite and sweet. Alec and I rescued it from the trash on Hillside Avenue. It was covered in peeling, white latex paint. It originally had a punched wood seat, but that had rotted away and could not be salvaged. The original punched wood seat was covered with fabric held on by thumb tacks and was faded and coming apart. Here is this little sweetie right after she was rescued:
And here she is looking simply mahvelous. I swear this chair is sitting up straighter now that she's been ReGroovynated!
This chair was sanded, sanded, sanded, and then sanded some more. Underneath all the white, latex was a beautiful sea foam green paint. I really liked it, but it was a little too pale, and made Sweetie look anemic. I added this denim blue color and then sanded, sanded, sanded and buffed so that all the beautiful colors and wood would show through. I made the seat cushion out of two old pairs of jeans. I love that my old, faded jeans, too ripped up to wear anymore, were given a new life by a sweet chair that was given a new life too.

The Wilson Table
My next door neighbors, the Wilson's, were throwing this table away. The bottom piece of the table, or the lower shelf, had sustained some water damage and the veneer was sort of ripply. The table also had some mold on it and had a mildewy smell. But I just couldn't resist it! First of all, I loved the rectangular shape of the table and the detail on the legs. Second, the table was small. No matter how damaged it was, I figured it would not be a huge undertaking to bring it back to life.
A thorough sanding and washing was almost all that was needed to get this little gem ready for some paint. However, the water from washing the table further warped the bottom piece. Luckily, this part of the table was covered with a thin layer of wood veneer. I peeled the veneer off and covered the bottom section of the table with this beautiful, thick artisan paper that had been looking for a home for some time.
The table is painted in Benjamin Moore's Gobi Desert and the legs are detailed in a denim blue. Right now the Wilson table is my husband's bedside table, but that could change any day.
Alex's Toy Chest

| Moldy Bottom of Toy Chest |
Loretta picked this toy chest up for her son Alex for about two dollars at a garage sale. The bottom piece was rotted, warped and moldy. I replaced the bottom piece and sanded the chest down. I washed the piece with bleach and water to eliminate any lingering moldy smells. Loretta requested that I paint the chest a bright color and then distress it. I chose Green Apple, which is so fresh and bright, though not as bright as it appears in the after photos. The toy chest looks and smells brand new. No excuses for not putting your toys away, Alex!

Me and MAM
I LOVE the Montclair Art Museum! It's a gem in the suburbs of New York City. I have been volunteering in many different capacities at the Museum for three years and I've just completed a year long Docent Training Program. For a short time last year, I filled in for the Development Assistant while she was on maternity leave. This past Wednesday, the Montclair Art Museum, or MAM, honored me for my volunteer efforts.
Here I am with Lora Urbanelli, Director of MAM (you get a glimpse of Robert Mapplethorpe's Flowers behind us, on view until July 17)
Some of my girls joined me. As you can see, they brought even more beauty and sparkle than even MAM is accustomed to.
